    Heroes of the Snow

    A huge well done to all of our staff members who through careful planning and huge dedication, ensured that every single customer of ours received their visits as usual despite 'The Beast from the East' covering the area with snow in March.

    As soon as we heard the weather warning earlier in the week, we put into place our contingency plan for icy weather which included hiring 4x4 vehicles to support our staff to travel to their visits.

    Most of our staff were able to continue to travel as normal, we had walkers braving the cold, cyclists doing their best on icy roads and drivers carefully making their way around. The 4x4's were on hand to help out anyone who couldn't make it to a particular visit, particularly those in rural areas.

    It was such a fantastic display of dedication that it even led to our team getting a mention on the front page of the local paper (The Portsmouth News) and being labelled 'Heroes of the Snow'.

    We're rightly proud of the work that everyone put in to making sure that the vital services we provide are able to happen come rain, shine, or even snow!

    Another award for our staff, this time at the Hampshire Care Awards

    Congratulations to one of our employees, Carole Rogers, who won the Employee of the Year Award at the Hampshire Care Awards held in Hedge End on Saturday 18th November 2017.



    Carole has worked for Nightingales Golden Care for over 14 years and in that time has always shown herself to be a hardworking and caring member of staff.

    It was great to have her fantastic work recognised by the Hampshire Domiciliary Care Providers (HDCP) at the Hampshire Care Awards. She was up against some very stiff competition but was victorious on the night.

    Carole was thrilled to have won the award and immediately took to sharing news of her victory on Facebook which, quite rightly, got many likes and comments!

    Carole visits various service users in Portsmouth and has a regular group of service users she has looked after for many years. 1 service user, in particular, has had Carole as her main carer for 14 years.

    It's important for our staff and our service users to have this continuity as it allows them to build up a relationship and develop trust. Our staff also value having that continuity as they know their hours won't change from week to week and they can rely on their regular work.

    Registered Manager Ben Chudley said "We are extremely proud of Carole for winning her award on the night. She has always been a winner in our eyes but it's fantastic for her to be recognised for such a fantastic award. It is thoroughly deserved. Well done Carole".

    Another 2 staff members complete 10 years of service

    Staff turnover is very high in the care industry, 38.1% as a national average in 2015/16. With that in mind it's no wonder that we wanted to reward both Daniel Stacey and Paula Stacey with £500 each to thank them for their loyalty.



    Paula and Daniel also happen to be mother and son. They both started working with the company at the same time. Daniel is part of the management team, dealing with the company's accounts and payroll and Paula is a Community Care worker, cycling around Portsmouth visiting elderly and vulnerable people in their own homes.

    The Registered Manager for Nightingales Golden Care, Ben Chudley had this to say...

    "What Paula and Daniel have achieved with their 10 years service is fantastic. We are immensely proud of their achievement and very grateful for their hard work and dedication during their time with Nightingales Golden Care. They are now the 4th & 5th staff members who have made it to 10 years with the company in our 14 year history. This is what we have found to be most important to the people who use our service, for them to know that they will see the same person day in, day out is extremely valuable as it enables them to build up trust and rapport and have continuity. We are glad to reward both Daniel and Paula for this achievement."

    We beat off competition from other providers in Hampshire, Kent, Berkshire, and Sussex to be named in the list by homecare.co.uk.

    The homecare.co.uk Top 10 Home Care Provider Awards 2017 highlight the most recommended Providers in each region of the UK. The Awards are based on the Review Score for each agency, as of 30th of April 2017.



    Nightingales Golden Care Ltd are the only provider in Portsmouth included in the list and currently have a hugely impressive average review score of 10 out of 10 based on numerous reviews from service users and their relatives.

    The Registered Manager, Ben Chudley said "This award yet again highlights the fantastic work delivered by our caring staff. We encourage service users and their families to share their views on our service to help others choose a care provider that is suitable for them and never did we think that it would lead to us being named in the top 10 for the South East 2 years in a row! It's a fantastic achievement and one for which the credit must go to our fantastic, hard working care staff."

    Nightingales Golden Care Rewards Another Staff Member For 10 Years Of Service

    November 2016 marked 10 years since Sarah Barber started with Nightingales Golden Care as she became the latest carer to have dedicated 10 years of her working life to supporting elderly and vulnerable people within the community working with Nightingales Golden Care.



    To celebrate this we decided to award her with a gift of £500 to say thank you for all of her hard work and commitment during this time.

    Registered Manager Ben Chudley said “Sarah has always had a regular round of people that she visits and has often gone above and beyond during her time here to provide the best level of care to the people she supports. She is a credit to the company. 10 years is no mean feat in this industry. It shows Sarah’s dedication to the role and also shows our commitment to our staff. For a company that’s only 14 years old we’ve now already got 2 staff members who have passed their 10 year mark and next year we’ve got 3 staff members all approaching their 10 year milestone so we’re already saving away our pennies so that we can reward them all in the same way, as it is thoroughly deserved.”


    Ben Chudley wins the 'Home Care Manager Award'!

    We are extremely pleased to announce that our Registered Manager, Ben Chudley has won the 'Home Care Manager Award' at the 2014 Great British Care Awards held in Brighton in November.

    Ben was among several Nightingales Golden Care employees shortlisted for awards at the ceremony, many of whom has been nominated by our service users.



    The fact that our service users wanted to nominate some of our care staff for awards shows the excellent level of care that is being provided by our staff in Portsmouth and Hampshire and it's great to see that has been recognised by an external organisation such as the Great British Care Awards.

    Ben was extremely proud to receive his award and said that he dedicated it to all of the staff members who work so hard providing excellent care in the community in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, which makes his job a lot easier and more enjoyable. The judging panel stated that one of the reasons Ben was awarded the Home Care Manager Award was because he was focused on delivering for his clients, team and business.

    The Great British Care Awards are a series of events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards are the pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

    The awards have received support from across the social care sector, including the Department of Health, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services(ADASS), United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA), Care England, the Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE), the National Skills Academy, and Skills for Care.

    Nightingales World Cup Winner Announced!

    Nightingales Golden Care Ltd is pleased to announce the winner of our World Cup competition, Martin Sweeney!

    We like to reward our home care staff for the excellent work that they do and sometimes like to do it in some unconventional ways. It's just one of the things that sets us apart from other home care companies.

    At the beginning of the competition we drew our homecare staff member's names and participating teams out of a hat so that each member of staff was allocated a team. Whoever was drawn alongside the team that won the World Cup would win the competition.

    Our domiciliary care and personal assistant staff do such a good job throughout the year we are always trying to think up new ways to reward them for the excellent care they provide in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, so the prize was a 3 course meal for two with a bottle of Prosecco at Prezzo in Port Solent on us.

    Now that the competition is over, Martin Sweeney who had been allocated Germany wins the prize and gets to celebrate Germany's victory in style by taking a break from providing care to the elderly and disabled to go for a meal on us.

    Nightingales rewards Carole Collins for 10 years of service!

    October 2013 marked 10 years since Carole started working for Nightingales Golden Care.

    Over the last 10 years Carole has been providing care and support to elderly and vulnerable people within the Portsmouth area on behalf of Nightingales Golden Care.



    Turnover of staff in the care industry is high, 2012 figures showed the average for domiciliary care at 28% and yet most of the feedback we get from the people we provide care to is that the most important thing to them is continuity and reliability. So for someone like Carole to stay with one company looking after the same people for such a long time really does have a positive impact on their lives and is something we thought was worth celebrating.

    We decided to award Carole with a present for her hard work and dedication to our company and gave her a gift of £500. Carole was extremely touched by the gift and has decided to put it towards a newer car so that she can be even more reliable for the people she supports!

    We believe that Carole is an excellent example of what we are trying to do as a company by providing good pay and working conditions for our staff so that they will be happy in their job and provide an excellent and reliable service for our service users.

    It is vitally important to us to be able to provide our service users with continuity of staff so that they can build up a relationship with them over time and feel comfortable and supported by people they know and trust whilst being able to stay in their own home.

    We look forward to rewarding many more of our staff in the future as they complete their milestone years within the company and look forward to another 10 years with Carole!
